SWA Code of professional conduct

All members of the Spiritual Workers Association agree to:

  • Act in the best interests of their clients, the SWA and any other professional organisational bodies they may be affiliated to.
  • Act in the interests of their own personal safety and well-being and those of their clients.
  • Treat clients, patients and members of the public with respect and courtesy.
  • Take responsibility for their words and actions when working with the public and act in an appropriate manner.
  • Take out suitable insurance cover to indemnify and protect themselves, their clients and or other third parties.
  • Always have a chaperone present when supplying spiritualistic services to people under the age of 18.
  • Always seek parental consent in writing when supplying spiritualistic services to people under the age of 18. (Be aware any contract would lie with the adult not the person under 18)
  • Always have a chaperone present when supplying spiritualistic services to those who could be considered as vulnerable. (e.g. Persons who are under 18, people who maybe suffering from mental illness, on prescription drugs, has a substance misuse problem, is elderly etc.)
  • Always seek owner’s written consent when supplying spiritualistic services to animals.
  • Continually seek to improve and develop their knowledge and abilities through, wherever possible, recognised training and certification.
  • Respect the beliefs, philosophy and creeds of others.
  • Keep any information acquired in the course of their work confidential unless it is required by law or it is contrary to the public interest.
  • Work within the law of the country in which they practise.
  • Use language that can easily be understood by clients and ensure clients have understood clearly what the service provided will entail.

Members of the Spiritual Workers Association will not:

  • Break the Code of Conduct.
  • Falsify any documentation. This includes, but is not limited to, records, reference forms, and membership of organisations, training, awards, certification, and qualifications.
  • Make unsubstantiated claims.
  • Use unacceptable behaviour during the course of their work. Unacceptable behaviour includes but is not limited to, Verbal or physical assault, provocation, threat, profane language or insolence, sexual intimidation, harassment, bullying; discriminate against anyone on grounds of race, politics, religion, creed, age, sexuality, ability or in any other way that contravenes discrimination laws; act in a way as to disregard the SWA's core standards and principles.

Disclaimer/Note

The SWA reserves the right to alter, amend or suspend any and all benefits and the right to cancel, suspend, or refuse membership, as well as change membership costs at any time if necessary and appropriate without refunds of monies paid.

The SWA would also like to remind members of the public that a contract works both ways. Spiritualistic Service Providers are also entitled to be treated with respect and courtesy and do not have to put up with unacceptable behaviour from their clients.
